New Delhi, Jan 11 (IECurrentAffairs) Reacting to the transfer of CBI chief Alok Verma by the committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening, well-known lawyer Prashant Bhushan alleged that the move was a desperate attempt to prevent Verma from filing an FIR against Modi in the Rafale scam.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mr Bhushan said, “So, a day after he resumed charge as CBI Director, the Committee headed by Modi again transfers out Alok Verma post haste, without even hearing him, fearing the prospect of his registering an FIR against Modi in the Rafale scam”.
He said that the committee did not even hear Verma’s submissions and transferred him a day after he resumed office.
Mr Verma, who resumed his Office on Wednesday, revoked transfers of officials which was done by Nageshwar Rao—the interim-Director during Verma’s absence.
Within a day of his being reinstated by the Supreme Court, Alok Verma was on Thursday shunted out from the country’s premier probe agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as its director.
The decision to ‘ease out’ Mr Verma from the high profile post came after two hour-and-15 minutes meeting of the high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The other members of the panel included Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Justice A K Sikri, who was nominated by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to represent him.
The panel had met on Wednesday evening but the deliberations remained inconclusive, sources said.
