Srinagar, Nov 1 (IENews) Two militants were reportedly killed by security forces in a fierce encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on Thursday, official sources said.
Internet mobile service in Budgam has been suspended to prevent spread of rumours.
They said on a tip-off about the presence of two to three militants in village Zagoo, Khansahib, in Badgam, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation early Thursday morning.
When the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, the sources said, adding security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
Two militants were reportedly killed, they said, adding that bodies have not yet been recovered.
The operation was going on when the reports last came in.
A police spokesman also confirmed that encounter has ensued in Badgam. Details are awaited.
