The evil of child sexual abuse stares the Catholic Church in its face. Mocking the institution and raising doubts in the minds of the faithfuls on the teachers of the faith.
The even bigger evil of spiritual pride within the Catholic Church to acknowledge the evil of child abuse within, is pricking the institution all over the body. Mocking the tenets of the teaching of Jesus and raising doubts in the minds of the faithfuls on the humanness of the teachers of the faith.
Sexual abuse by Catholic priests and their related cover-ups have come from several countries across the world – Kenya, Tanzania, Phillipines, India, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, England, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, United States, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
A bishop was arrested for the first time in India on accusations of raping a 44-year old nun.
I am confident that you would be aware of the case of Bishop Franco Mulakkal – a man of the Catholic Church – who has been booked for raping, sodomising and confining a nun not once but 13 times.
The nun with the sorrow and mental agony of her abuse had approached a Bishop, Archbishop, Cardinal, Apostolic Nuncio and even you – senior most representatives of the Catholic Church and Faith. Yet the Catholic Church opted to remain a mute spectator and indirectly support the ‘accused rapist’.
The Catholic Church rarely acts of the complaints of sexual abuse.
In fact in most cases coming out in the open now, from all around the world, there is an undeniable truth that the Catholic Church has covered up gruesome crimes of sexual abuse, wherein the sexual predators where Catholic clergymen.
Psalm 127: 3-5 states, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”
I, as Christian, and many like me, cannot fathom the reason behind the silence of the Catholic Church, when children between the ages of 7 to 15 were being sexually abused by priests for years.
Where was the humanness of the Catholic Church, that it so often preaches about. Where was the integrity of the Catholic clergymen, that one is taught about in Sunday school.
“The devil is attacking the Church,” is a statement you made very recently Pope Francis.
I find this statement to be an insult to all the abused survivors in the world.
It is also a statement riddled with hypocrisy and shamelessness.
It is a statement that exhibits your complete lack of spine to address the evil within but to cleverly attribute the sexual abuse crimes to some external supernatural force that is attacking the Church.
I suppose you want to tell the world, that when a 55-year old priest sodomises a 9-year old boy, it was not the priest who committed the sexual abuse but the devil in form of the priest.
Do you think we live in an era, where the Catholic Church can throw up any theory to the world, in order to cover-up their evil acts and Christians would believe it.
If according to you the devil is indeed attacking the Church, then demons of the devil would have to be the priests who perpetrate the evil of sexual abuse on the innocent.
It is about time that the Catholic Church drops its mask of holiness if it cannot stop the victimisation of innocent children by predatory clergymen.
If we cannot protect our children in the House of God, as we like to call the Church, we have failed in our responsibilities to our children and to God.
Mathew 18: 6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea”.
I do not know if you would even care about the contents of my letter.
I come from a family of very devout Catholics, who have in their own little way contributed in making their lives a channel of peace and kindness.
I cannot see the beauty of the teachings of Jesus be marred by the acts of the devil within the Church.
You cannot talk about God, when some priests act like the devil.
If the Church does not exorcise this devil of sexual abuse by priests. In the coming months the faithfuls in the Church will revolt against the silence of the Church.
You can attempt to buy-out the truth with millions that Catholic Church has accumulated and the Catholic Church has done that in many cases but the truth will emerge and with the truth, the shame.
Some Bishops in India have compared the accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal to Jesus for the trial he is witnessing. This is the extent of the pathetic attitude of the clergymen.
The Bible teaches us that Jesus respected all woman and believed in the power of woman. He did not violate the rights and dignity of a woman, and then to cover-up his crime, termed the woman a ‘prostitute’ or a ‘liar’.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal needs to defrocked immediately, if the Church wants to act fairly.
The right-minded Christians in India has rallied in support for justice to the nun and punishment by Indian law to Bishop Franco.
This case is just a start to many sexual abuse cases in India coming out. A spark that has been lit and has started to catch fire.
Let me also categorically state that as a journalist, I have made it my sworn duty to expose all sexual abuse cases within the Church in India. I will hunt down these predators and I will expose them to the world.
And as a Christian, I have made a promise to Jesus, that I will spread the true teachings of Jesus by acts of love and compassion; while eradicating the epidemic of sexual abuse.
Let me end in the beautiful words of Jesus in Mathew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God”.
I sincerely pray you find the wisdom within you to do the right thing in the interest of our children and the Catholic faith.
