TCS ‘Billion Steps Challenge’ evokes overwhelming response from employees

Kolkata, Oct 26 (IEBusiness) Tata Consultancy Services announced that its ‘Billion Steps Challenge’ to employees evoked an overwhelming response, with over 200,000 participants across the globe registering and collectively logging a record three billion steps.

At over 2.4 million km, this distance is equivalent to three return trips to the moon, or going sixty times around the Earth, or five and a half times around Jupiter.

TCS, a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization.

The TCS ‘Billion Steps Challenge’ is one of the biggest employee engagement initiatives undertaken by the company and is a part of the TCS50 programme – an enterprise-wide initiative celebrating fifty years of TCS, the company said in emailed statement to UNI here.

At a larger level, ‘Billion Steps’ is an expression of energy and coming together of all TCS employees as a part of #OneTCS. TCS employees literally stepped up to the challenge to walk or run individually and in groups, so as to collectively log a billion steps in a special app.

The app, designed in-house, created a lot of excitement among employees as they got a minute by minute view of their contribution to the ‘Billion Steps’ initiative. Employees were ecstatic as the app provided a real-time view of the company crossing the aggregate goal of billion steps within a few days and touching three billion steps at the end of the challenge period.

The challenge, conducted between September 28 and October 7, attracted over 200,000 TCSers across 48 countries and registering a 300 per cent result over the original goal.

Ajoy Mukherjee, EVP & Head, Global Human Resources, TCS, said, ‘The very fact that so many of our employees spread across so many locations, came together to accomplish this astounding feat, is a testimony to the spirit of #OneTCS. These kinds of innovative employee engagement initiatives are what make TCS a progressive and fun workplace that attracts and retains the best talent across the world. This is indeed a landmark in TCS’ 50 year journey, capturing the resounding voice of TCS, across the world.’
