Stage set to host Intl FIH20 powerboat racing from tomorrow

Vijayawada, Nov 15 (IESports) The bank on the river Krishna at Bhavanipuram here was filled with abuzz as the three-day first FIH20 World Championship of single-seater inshore circuit powerboat racing will commence from Friday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the International event.

On behalf of the State government, the Tourism department is hosting one round of the F1H20 Powerboat racing here from November 16 in river Krishna, upstream the Prakasam barrage.

The final race will be held on November 18 and practice sessions will be held tomorrow and day after, Tourism and Culture Department Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena said, adding that the aim behind hosting this international event is to put AP in World Tourism map.

Nine teams comprising 19 Formula 1 drivers and nine Formula 4 drivers from 14 countries were taking part in the event. The Powerboats and racing equipment were brought here by special containers from Krishnapatnam port. The boats were imported from China, organizers said.

Apart from hosting the event, Andhra Pradesh had also put an Amaravati team in this race with the branding of “team Amaravati” and the team is participating in all the seven races.

Special platforms were constructed for the racing boats on the bank of river Krishna at Bhavanipuram and galleries were constructed for VIPs.

Over one lakh people are expected to watch the power boat racing directly.

The Union International Motonautique (UIM), organiser of the FIH20, a multiple Grand Prix series of eight events taking place in Europe and Asia this year, included Amaravati, the new capital of AP, in this year’s racing series.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism and India Xetreme of Mahalaxmi Group, a local business firm were playing a significant role to organzse the power boat FIH20 racing in the river Krishna. The Tourism department set up viewing galleries at Punnami Ghat.

The officials said that the vehicular traffic will not be allowed on the Prakasam barrage, across the river Krishna enabling people to view the powerboat racing. This is the first international water sport event, being held here, the officials said, adding that all arrangements have been completed.
