Security Forces encounter militants during CASO

Srinagar, Sep 25 (UNI) An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Tuesday, official sources said.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended mobile internet of all Cellular companies and ordered closure of educational institutions in Sopore as a precautionary measure.

Official sources told UNI that on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashitriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Tujjar Sharief in Sopore in the wee hours of Tuesday.

However, when the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, they said, adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Additional security forces have been rushed to the area to further tighten the cordon.

The operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Further details are awaited, they added.
