SC dismisses PIL seeking expeditious execution of Nirbhaya case convicts

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IECurrentAffairs) Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the petition filed by laywer Alakh Alok Srivastava, seeking a direction to the Centre to execute all the four death row convicts — Mukesh, Pawan, Vinay and Akshay — in the brutal Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case within two weeks.

A division bench comprising Justices MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta dismissed the petition after noting that the petition is devoid of merits.

Mr Srivasatava had on November 23, filed the PIL before the Apex Court seeking an expeditious execution of all the four death row convicts in the case.

“What kind of prayers you have. Dismiss,” Justice Lokur said.

The Apex Court had in its earlier judgement sentenced all the four convicts — Mukesh, Pawan, Vinay and Akshay — to the gallows in the brutal December 16 gangrape and murder case.
