Ranjan Gogoi sworn in as new Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IENews) Justice Ranjan Gogoi was on Wednesday sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Justice Gogoi, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, was administered the oath by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

CJI Gogoi replaces Justice Dipak Mishra who retired on Tuesday.

CJI Gogoi, who is the first Chief Justice of India from the North-East , will have a tenure of over 13 months till end of November next year.

As per the norm, the name of Justice Gogoi, the senior-most after former CJI Dipak Misra, was recommended by the latter and the appointment was then confirmed by President Kovind in September this year.
