New Delhi, Nov 24 (IECurrentAffairs) Charging the BJP of raking up issue of Ram Mandir on the eve of every election, the Congress on Friday said it was just a vote gathering tactic for the party.
Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari, reacting to the statement by Shiv sena leader Sanjay Raut on the Ram Janambhoomi Babri Mandir issue , said ,’BJP has nothing to do with either Lord Ram or the Ram Mandir. It is not a question of faith for the party. Rather, it is just a vote gathering tactic for it. If one looks at the elections in the country since 1986, one would find that statements by top BJP leaders on Ram Mandir have been coming just before election time.
You have been in power at the Centre for the last four and a half years. A party that is confident of itself should go to the people on the basis of their work rather than on where the Ram Mandir will be built, an issue that been lingering for the last 30 years. ‘
‘You have been in power in Madhya Pradesh for 15 years and In Chhattisgarh for the last 15 years and fir the last five years in Rajasthan.
Why is is that rather than go to the people on your achievements in last 15 years, you want to fight polls on the Ram Mandir issue,’Mr Tewari said.
On the Congress party’s stand on the issue, Mr Tewari said ,’for the last two decades, our stand on the issue has been that whatever the decision by the Supre court on the issue would be acceptable to us.’
Attacking ally BJP on Friday over the demand for special law to enable the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya,
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, said ,”We brought down the Babri mosque in 17 minutes, so how much time for a law?”
He also warned that people who objected to the temple would not be able to roam freely in the country.
“We brought down Babri in 17 minutes. Ram-bhakts (devotees) removed the blot that had been there for years, within minutes… toh kaagaz banane mein kitna waqt lagta hai(how much time does it take to draw up papers?) If you talk about an ordinance, then from the President’s House Rashtrapati Bhavan to Uttar Pradesh, it is BJP all the way. What else do you want?” Sanjay Raut told reporters.
