New Delhi, Feb 5 (IECurrentAffairs) A day after BJP stated that Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar “knows a lot” and therefore Mamata Banerjee is trying to protect him from CBI probe, suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh has said that the top cop worked in a distinct pattern to destroy evidence.
“He (Rajeev Kumar) worked in a style….Suppose I submit some documents and suppose there is a big name in it, he won’t show it in any list. He won’t take action. But he will call the person and interrogate the person,” Ghosh has been quoted as telling a television channel.
“He does it in a certain style. What he does is…whoever is in power..he is very skilled in all this…he knows how to tap phone …how to track a person..how to trap a person..he is a master of this things..but does this for whoever is in power..whoever is the Chief Minister… So during Buddhababu’s (Buddhadeb Bhattacharya former Left front CM of Bengal CM), he did all this against others. He does all these things,” said Ghosh – the private news channel claims.
The former Trinamool MP was arrested and interrogated for his alleged involvement in the scam.
At the media briefing on Monday, BJP leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said:
“The total suspicious circumstances surrounding the situation proves that this Police Commissioner knows a lot and therefore he has to be saved.”
Mr Prasad also said Ms Mamata Banerjee had not protested when her party colleagues Madan Mitra, Sports and Transport Minister and her confidant, was arrested on December 12, 2014.
Several important Trinamool leaders including Sudip Bandyopadhayay, floor leader in Lok Sabha, and party MP Tapas Pal besides Madan Mitra were arrested from time to time but Ms Banerjee did not protest the manner she has done since Sunday.
The BJP has been also critical about the fact that an in service police officer and city’s Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar was sitting on a dharna with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
Rajeev Kumar, Kolkata’s police commissioner and blue eyed cop of Mamata Banerjee, is not the only
man in Khaki who got embroiled in the muddle of Sharada chit fund scam.
In September 2014, former Assam DGP Shankar Barua shot himself to death about three weeks after the CBI raided his residence in connection with the multi-crore Sharada chit fund scam.
It was not without good reason that one former West Bengal DGP, Rajat Mazumdar, who post retirement had joined Trinamool, was also arrested.
