Rail employee discovers 464 live cartridges in election special train

Nagpur, Nov 22 (IECurrentAffairs) Around 464 live cartridges were found abandoned beneath a seat in an election special train while it was being washed here on Wednesday.

According to sources,the election special train with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) personnel on board was scheduled for Vijaywada from Lucknow so as to transport the security forces who were deputed in Telangana Assembly elections.

After off-loading the ITBP personnel and their assaulty gear in Vijaywada,the train returned to Nagpur on Tuesday as it was scheduled to depart for another destination after a day’s gap.

The large stock of the cartridges sealed in a green box was discovered by a railway employee when the train was on the washing line of Carriage and Wagon Department near platform no 7.

Receiving the news,the Railway Protection Force(RPF) reached the spot to inspect the box and after observing it,found that the cartridges are particularly used for INSAS rifle.

Conjecturing it to be the property of ITBP,the RPF handed over the discovered cartridges to the Government Railway Police(GRP),sources added.
