New Delhi, Feb 8 (IECurrentAffairs) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Jalpaiguri region in West Bengal to lay the foundation stone for the fourlaning of the Falakata – Salsalabari section of NH -31D.
“….The people of West Bengal realise that only BJP can fulfill their dreams and aspirations,” he tweeted on Friday morning.
According to an official announcement, this 41.7 km long section of National Highways falls in the Jalpaiguri district in the northern part of the state and will be constructed at a cost of about Rs 1938 crore.
The project will reduce the distance from Salsalabari and Alipurduar to Siliguri by nearly 50 km. This is significant as better access to Siliguri would mean better access to railways and airways for the people in the region.
The National Highway will facilitate better movement of tea and other agricultural produce from the region to markets. The improved connectivity will also lead to an increase in tourism in the region.
“Various development projects will be initiated in Jalpaiguri today. These will greatly benefit the people of West Bengal,” Prime Minister tweeted.
He also wrote: “Today and tomorrow, I will be joining programmes in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. Looking forward to interacting with the people of these states”.
Mr Modi will also inaugurate New High Court Circuit Bench at Jalpaiguri.
The Circuit bench of Calcutta High Court at Jalpaiguri will provide speedy justice to people of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar in North Bengal. The decision to set up High Court Circuit Bench at Jalpaiguri was taken in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening here.
Residents of four districts will now have to travel less than 100 km to access the bench instead of 600 km trip to Calcutta High Court, officials said.
In a Tweet, Prime Minister also wrote: “In the afternoon (Friday), I will address a public meeting in Mainaguri. During my recent visits to West Bengal, I have been seeing the massive support for BJP.
The people of West Bengal realise that only BJP can fulfill their dreams and aspirations”.
