PM Modi, Shah welcome passage of new Quota Bill by Parliament

New Delhi, Jan 9 (IECurrentAffairs) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed happiness that the much talked about The 124th Constitution Amendment Bill that will grant 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections among general category was passed by Parliament.

“Delighted the Rajya Sabha has passed The Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019. Glad to see such widespread support for the Bill,” Prime Minister tweeted within minutes the Bill was approved by the Upper House of Parliament by an overwhelming majority.

“The House also witnessed a vibrant debate, where several members expressed their insightful opinions,” Mr Modi wrote.

The draft law was passed by Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

“By passing The Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019, we pay tributes to the makers of our Constitution and the great freedom fighters, who envisioned an India that is strong and inclusive,” Prime Minister wrote.

He said the passage of The Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019 in both Houses of Parliament is a “victory for social justice”.

“It ensures a wider canvas for our Yuva Shakti to showcase their prowess and contribute towards India’s transformation”.

In his missive, BJP chief Amit Shah also welcomed the passage of the Bill.

“I compliment Prime Minister and also express gratefulness to all the members for supporting it,” Mr Shah tweeted in Hindi.
