Kochi, Nov 24 (IECurrentAffairs) In a backdoor tactic to evict the 44-yr old nun who accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape, Mother Superior of the Missionaries of Jesus has written to the Kerala Police stating that it did not have the financial strength or resources to continue providing protection to the nun.
This letter which was written a few weeks ago comes in response to an official communication from the Kerala police asking for specific security arrangements at a convent home in Kerala which currently houses the rape victim and her colleagues who are involved in a fight for justice in the case.
The Kerala Police recommended repairing existing CCTV cameras, installing night vision cameras, proper lighting on the road leading to the convent and independent cooks for the victim and her colleagues.
Mother Superior of the convent, known to be close to the accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal told the police that such security arrangements will affect the day-to-day functioning of the inmates in the convent. And also that the convent does not have financial resources to implement such security measures.
The Mother Superior has however recommended to the police that the nuns be shifted to a government-run facility and outside the convent.
Incidentally, the Mother Superior is the woman who revealed the identity of the rape victim to the media by showing a photograph of the victim while defending Bishop Franco Mulakkal in a press conference.
