Jalandhar, Nov 18 (IECurrentAffairs) Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for those killed in the hand grenade blast at a congregation held at the Nirankari Bhawan in Raja Sansi town on Sunday afternoon.
The chief minister also directed the district administration of Amritsar to take care of the injured ones and provide them free treatment.
The chief minister termed the incident a cowardly act and said no person or outfit would be allowed to disturb the peace and harmony of the state.
Punjab DGP Suresh Arora too arrived at the site of the incident and took stock of the situation.
Inspector General SPS Parmar informed that three persons were killed while at least 10 were injured in the blast. He said as per information, two bike borne armed and masked men barged into the premises by brandishing a pistol at a woman guard deputed at the gate.Once inside, they lobbed a hand grenade at the religious congregation and escaped.
Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka rushed to the site immediately on receiving the news.
Talking to mediapersons, he said,”the crime was a result of the lapses in the security and intelligence apparatus” and accused both the central and state government agencies for the incident.
Punjab was on high alert following an intelligence input claiming that a group of six to seven JeM terrorists were reportedly in the state, possibly in Ferozepur area besides the reports of Kashmir based terrorist outfit chief Zakir Musa’s presence in Amritsar who was seen in the city on Friday.
