MGP resolves to withdraw support to BJP-led govt in Goa

Panaji, Apr 12 (IECurrentAffairs) Maharashtrawadi Gomatank Party (MGP) President Deepak Dhavalikar on Friday said that party had decided to withdraw support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state.

Speaking to reporters, he said,”The party has formally resolved to withdraw support to the Goa government. A letter will be submitted to the Governor any time soon.

Central committee of the party had passed a resolution to support the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

MGP was in alliance with BJP since 2012. It broke away from the alliance and contested 2017 assembly election with Shiv Sena and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM). Again after results were announced it allied with BJP and helped form government led by Manohar Parrikar.

But after death of Parrikar, differences emerged and two of MGP MLAs joined BJP, thus reducing number of MGP MLAs in the assembly to just one.
