HC orders to restore Internet services

Imphal, Sep 26 (UNI) The Manipur University issue related to the demand for action against suspended VC Prof AS Pandey continued to disturb normalcy in the state.

Hostellers have vacated the rooms after security personnel entered the hostels and fired upon them on the night of Sep 21. All classes and examinations remained suspended. Five teachers and ten students of the Manipur University were remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile following a directive from the Manipur High Court internet service which remained suspended from Sep 22 was restored today.

After normalcy was restored in the University after three months trouble started after the Union Human Resource Ministry instructed two persons appointed by the suspended VC in charge to take charge as Pro VC and Registrar. All the offices which were sealed for investigation were also broken.

Prof K Yugindro who was appointed by the suspended VC has assumed charge but the staff, teachers and students were not supporting him. All the women hostellers were on a hunger strike demanding appointment of officials who were not close to the tainted suspended VC .

The High Court of Manipur on Tuesday asked the government to ensure that BSNL and other private service providers should provide internet services to the people. Chief Justice, Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice, N. Kotiswar.

The two member Committee enquiring into the probe had summoned Prof Pandey however, the papers were not accepted and he refused to cooperate. As the committee was not going ahead with the University staff, teachers and students have stated that it was meaningless. Most of the documents may have been tampered and manipulated.
