New Delhi, Nov 24 (IECurrentAffairs) Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid will arrive India on Saturday on a four-day visit.
According to official sources, the visiting dignitary will meet his Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday and will among other programmes also call on President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday.
This will be first visit by Maldives Foreign Minister to India after installation of a new regime in that country on November 17.
Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday, November 17, took over as the new President of Maldives after a keenly observed elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the grand swearing in ceremony as one of the special invitees.
Shortly after the swearing in ceremony, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with the new President Solih at Male.
“PM (Modi) conveyed that India looked forward to working closely with Maldives in further deepening our partnership underpinned by historical ties and friendship,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar had tweeted.
A joint statement pledging improvement in bilateral ties was also issued on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Teodor Melescanu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, is also arriving on Saturday evening here.
Mr Melescanu will deliver a lecture at Observer Research Foundation here on Monday and will also meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, sources said.
