Lok Sabha today wrote itself into history by passing the much debated the 124th Constitution Amendment Bill that seeks to guarantee 10 per cent reservation to the economically weaker sections among general category.
As many as 323 members voted in favour of the Bill while three members voted against. There was no abstention.
Announcing the passage of the much talked about draft law, that was cleared by the Union cabinet in a rather dramatic development on Monday, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the Bill has been carried by the vote of the majority of members present in the House and by not less than by two third of the members present in the House.
It is a Constitutional Amendment Bill and will now be taken up by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
