London, Dec 17 (IESports) Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench to power Liverpool to 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield Stadium, regaining their top position in the Premier League.
Liverpool needed the win after Manchester City beat Everton on Saturday – and it was substitute Shaqiri’s double strike (73′, 80′) in the second half that gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the three points they fully deserved.
Sadio Mane had given Liverpool a first-half lead in 24th minute. But United hit back in 33rd minute as Jesse Lingard found the back of the net.
United did not pose any threat in the match, but managed to frustrate Liverpool till Shaqiri took the field.
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba kept sitting on the bench though United was in trouble. Jose Mourinho brought out Marouane Fellaini in place of Pogba at the interval.
Manchester United are struggling this season and are currently 6th on the Premier League table.
Now, United will play Cardiff City next week before hosting Huddersfield Town at the Old Trafford. The club fans have been critizing Jose Mourinho for the performance.
