Leander Paes & Reyes-Varela in doubles quarter-final of Brest ATP Challenger

France, Oct 24 (IESports) Veteran Indian tennis player Leander Paes and 31-year old Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico staged a smart recovery to prevail over formidable Spanish pair of Gerard Granollers and Enrique Lopez Perez in a closely contested in the men’s double pre-quarter match in the 106,000 Pound Open Brest ATP Challenger here on Tuesday.

Paes, with a doubles ranking of 62 and Reyes-Varela, with a doubles ranking of 55, lost the first set at 4-6. They hit back to claim the second set by 6-4 to level the score one-set all. In the tie-breaker Paes-Reyes-Varela demonstrated better coordination against their Spanish duo and clinched the match by 10-7 and advanced to the quarter-final round.

Paes-Reyes-Varela will now face French pair of Elliot Benchetrit and Geoffrey Blancaneaux who ousted another French combination of Benjamin Bonzi and Constant Lestienne 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
