Shimla, Jan 17 (IECurrentAffairs) Kuldeep Singh Rathore took over as the state party chief of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), in a public meeting here on Thursday.
While addressing a public meeting at Chauramadian near Amedkar Chowk in Shimla, Mr Rathore thanked AICC president Rahul Gandhi for giving him this responsibility and said a new history has been created after appointment of a person as the party chief, who never remained an MLA or an elected representative.
”By appointing me as party chief, Mr Gandhi gave a message that a party worker could become the state party president.
”When my name was shortlisted for the HPCC president, party leaders like Virbhadra Singh, Kaul Singh Thakur, Asha Kumari and Sukhvinder Singh endorsed my candidature unanimously.
”When AICC President Rahul Gandhi gave me the news on phone from Delhi, I was virtually shocked”, said Mr Rathore.
Quoting Mr Gandhi, the new HPCC chief said that the AICC chief gave him direction and big task to bring all party leaders together in the state, after learning from his past experience.
”The decision was taken by the AICC after trusting my service for the party rendered in the past that I could unite them.
”We understand how the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working and ruining the constitutional bodies and institutions. To divert the attention of people from basic issues like unemployment, price rise, inapt handling of economy and creating blunders like demontisation, the Prime Minister is habitual of telling lies for his convenience,” Mr Rahthore said.
He further said that as Lok Sabha polls are around the corner, it would not be possible for him to visit all the blocks in the state and used this public meeting to gave a clarion call to all the workers, to come together.
He urged the senior party leaders to guide him, in the interest of the party, while claiming that Congress will sweep all the four Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Senior party leaders, including Virbhadra Singh, AICC state In-charge Rajni Patil, Congress Legislative Party leader Mukesh Agnihotri, CWC member Asha Kumari, DR Shandil, Sudhir Sharma and Rajesh Dharmani were present in the public meeting.
