Kerala Nun Rape Case: IndianExpose Founder petitions NCW to question Catholic Church leaders

NCW to study petition and see how to take up the matter

New Delhi, Oct 1 (IENews) The National Commission for Women has confirmed receipt of the petition sent by the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of IndiaExpose and GoaChronicle, Savio Rodrigues seeking an inquiry into Catholic Church cover-up on the accusations of rape levelled by a nun against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

In a tweet reply to Savio Rodrigues, Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, NCW stated, “Got your email. Studying the matter and will see how @NCWIndia can take up this matter.

In his petition to NCW, Rodrigues, expressed, “The law of the nation has prevailed and currently the accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal is in police custody till October 6, 2018 as ordered by the court in Kerala.

However while the accused rapist has been arrested. The larger question of cover up by the Catholic Church has not be addressed.

I raise this question because the nun since 2017, on finding courage to fight back, turned to the Catholic Church with her complaint of sexual abuse. But shockingly not one of the Church leaders acknowledged or addressed the contents of her complaint or took appropriate action to investigate her case.”

Rodrigues also shared a link of story on IndianExpose and GoaChronicle team giving detail of the different leaders in the Church that 44-year old nun raped by Bishop Franco Mulakkal approached with her complaint of sexual abuse, but no one reported the matter to the authorities or investigated the matter as an institution should have.
