Jeremy creates history, wins India’s first ever Youth Olympics Gold

Buenos Aires, Oct 9 (IESports) Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga created history by winning India’s first-ever Gold medal at the Youth Olympics in the men’s 62 kg weightlifting category.

He lifted a snatch of 124 kg and clean & jerk of 150 kg amounting to a total of 274 kg to finish on top.

Jeremy’s earlier best personal till now was of 273 kg (snatch+clean and jerk), which he achieved during an event at NIS Patiala last month.

The 15-year-old, who hails from Mizoram is the next big thing in the weightlifting, especially in India.

Earlier this year, Lalrinnunga also smashed two national records in the Asian Championships.

It is India’s best ever performance as far as Youth Olympics is concerned.

In the last Youth Olympics which was held in China in 2014, India won only two medals including one silver and one bronze and in the inaugural 2010 edition in Singapore, the nation fetched six silver and a couple of bronze medals.
