New Delhi, Oct 17 (IECurrentAffairs) In a huge shot in the arm for the Congress in Rajasthan ahead of the assembly polls in the state on December 7, former Member of Parliament and Rajasthan MLA Manvenra Singh on Wednesday joined the Congress party.
Manvendra, son of former External Affair minister Jaswant Singh, joined Congress in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Wednesday morning.
Welcoming Manvendra into the party, the Congress president said that the party would be strengthened with his entry into the party.
“Rajasthan BJP MLA and former MP Manvendra Singh joined the party on Wednesday. With his entry, the Rajasthan Congress has been strengthened. The Congress family welcomes Manvendra ji ,’’Rahul said in a facebook post.
Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot were present at Rahul’s residence when Manvendra Singh joined the party.
At a recent rally in Barmer, Manvendra Singh had announced his intention to quit the BJP.
Mr Singh’s parting of ways with the BJP is the result of the Rajput community’s growing discontent with the party, claimed the sources.
