Panjim, Oct 17 (IENews) Even though Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not taken any decision on its next-in-line Chief Minister of Goa; Dr Pramod Sawant is the preferred choice of the ailing current Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Dr Pramod Sawant currently occupies the position of the Speaker of the Goa legislative assembly.
Informed sources close to Parrikar have told IndianExpose that Parrikar support for Dr Pramod Sawant for the top post in the state come from the belief that the young BJP leader is party loyalist and will always put the party first before personal ambition.
Parrikar has also stipulated that the next CM must be an existing MLA of BJP. With this condition, the chances of senior leaders like Union Minister Shripad Naik, party president Vinay Tendulkar and Rajendra Arlekar, ascension to the chief minister’s post is doubtful.
Also in the race, because of his strategic breaking-up of the Congress is former Congress minister who is now a BJP minister Vishwajit Rane.
Two senior congress MLAs resigned from the Congress and joined BJP yesterday.
Former Goa Congress president Subash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte under the guidance and orchestration of Rane dealt a stealth blow to the Congress in Goa, ruining their chances of forming the government and bringing it down to no longer the single-largest party in Goa.
But whether Parrikar writ prevails and Dr Pramod Sawant becomes the young chief minister of Goa or will Vishwajit Rane don the CM garb for his planned destruction of Congress in Goa.
IndianExpose has learned that 3 more Congress candidates likely to join BJP in Goa.
