Initiating process of auctioning of mine lies with state govt: Shripad Naik

Panaji, Feb 16 (GCCurrentAffairs) Union Minister for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shripad Naik on Saturday said that initiating process of auctioning for mining operations lay with the state governments not with the centre.

‘Its responsibility of state government to initiate process of auctioning not of central government,’ he said, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in the city.

When asked about his statement in which he had said that by February 15, 2019, a solution would be found to the mining impasse in the state, he said he had made the statement on the basis of assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Amit Shah. However, he added that efforts were underway to find a solution to the problem.

‘Yes I had said because our Prime Minister and Party President had given assurance. There are certain difficulties but efforts are underway,’ he said.

The Union Minister said state government had to decide about auctioning of mines in the state.

on January 24, 2019, Mr Naik had said that solution to mining crisis would be found out within a fortnight as central leadership of BJP was working on a forumla.

Recently a delegation of BJP MPs including Mr Naik, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, Rajya Sabha Member Vinay Tendulkar, Goa Assembly Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishajit Rane, MLAs Deepak Pauskar and Prasad Gaonkar and two members of Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF), an organisation spearheading cause of early resumption of mining operations in Goa, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and urged him to take steps for early resumption of mining in Goa.

The mining industry in Goa had come to a standstill in March last year after Supreme Court in its order quashed 88 leases and banned extraction of iron ore.
