New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) The Centre has again written to all State Governments and Administrators of the Union Territories to implement the direction of Supreme Court on ‘mob lynching’ incidents in the country, senior Home Ministry officials said here on Wednesday.
In the letter written to the States and UTs, the Home Ministry asked all State Governments and UTs to implement the directions of the Supreme Court in Judgment dated July 17 giving detailed direction in the judgment, the letter said .
”The incidents of lynching of persons by mob fuelled by various kinds of rumors, suspicions and unverified multimedia message services (MMS) are a matter of serious concern and the Supreme Court has also taken cognizance of the issues of mob violence and has given detailed directions in its Judgment dated July 17 to take preventive, remedial and punitive measures to curb the incidents of mob lynching in the country,” the Ministry said.
The directions of the Supreme Court were forwarded to the State Governments and UT Administrations for implementation in letter and spirit through an advisory dated July 23.
As per the said directions of the SC, State Governments and UT Administrations are also required to file an Action Taken Report in the matter.
The matter was last heard in the Supreme Court on September 24 2018 wherein the Court has specifically asked for action taken in compliance of the direction contained in Para 40 A (ix) under the heading ‘Preventive Measures’ of the Judgment dated July 17.
