Islamabad, Oct 12 (IENews) Renowned Pashtun human rights activist, Gulalai Ismail, was detained at the Islamabad International Airport following her return from London.
Speaking to Pakistan’s DAWN news channel, Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement activist said that when she returned to Islamabad she was told by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials that her name was on the Exit Control List.
Official sources at the airport confirmed the report of detention to the channel while the father of Ismail said that FIA had arrested his daughter and will be shortly handed over to Swabi police officials who are currently on their way to Islamabad.
Swabi police on Aug 13 had registered an FIR against 19 PTM leaders, including Ismail, for their involvement in a public gathering in Swabi where PTM’s Manzoor Pashteen and Ismail had addressed the crowd.
It may also be noted that Gulalai Ismail was awarded with Anna Politkovskaya Award in 2017 for campaigning against religious extremism, jointly shared by her and murdered Indian Journalist Gauri Lankesh.
