Vijayawada, (IECurrentAffairs) The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested archbishop of Church of South India (CSI) G Dyvasirvadam for his alleged involvement in misappropriation of church funds earlier this week.
The CID officials, who have been investigating the case for the last one year and made the arrest at his residence at Governorpet and produced him at a local court which remanded him to a 14-day judicial remand.
Police official told IndianExpose that it has been alleged that Dyvasirvadam has been misappropriating church funds for more than a decade and he was ‘illegally elected’ back in 2002. Members of the CSI Church have been fighting against Dyvasirvadam for the past few years claiming that he was utilising donations for his own family members.
Another relative of the archbishop, Sudhir Samuel, is also said to be involved in the scam.
Back in 2015, the Registrar of Companies, through an inspection audit and a series of income-tax audits since 2010, found the institution was not providing a clear picture of its accounts and not maintaining a list of properties.
The CID officials estimate that the scam go to the tune of several thousand crores considering the existing irregularities.
Rudrapati Prem Kumar, one of the key complainant amongst 34 others against Dyvasirvadam, had been gathering several documents pertaining to the transactions and submitted them to the then DGP N Sambasiva Rao back in 2017.
Dyvasirvadam was first arrested by the CID on January 2018 for an interrogation.
