Jalandhar, Oct 12 (IENews) In an attempt to white-wash the shame brought to the Catholic Church in India by the accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal, a few Catholics of Jalandhar led by Bishop Agnelo Gracias have decided to conduct a ‘rosary procession’ on October 14th at St Joseph Boys School.
This step of the Catholic Church is intriguing, as only yesterday the Catholic Federation of India threatened to evict the nun raped multiple times by Bishop Franco Mulakkal and other nuns who supported the victim in her fight for justice from convent of the Missionaries of Jesus congregation on the grounds that the ‘nun has embarrassed the Catholic Church’.
It is clearly evident that the Catholic Church’s strategy is to portray the accused rapist as the victim and the raped nun as a woman of poor character.
In fact the raped nun had approached senior clergy of the Catholic Church in India, Bishop Vadakkel, Archbishop Anil Couto, Cardinal Alencherry and Apostolic Nuncio in India Giambattista Diquattro but other than prayers and assurances, they did nothing.
They even failed to initiate an inquiry into her complaint as per the Canon Law direction on matters of sexual abuse by clergy.
Their action is in sync with the global trend in the Catholic Church to cover-up sexual abuse crimes of the clergy.
The accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal is Currently lodged in the Pala sub-jail in Kerala.
The Bishop of Jalandhar Franco Mulakkal was denied bail for the second time on Wednesday.
The accused rapist is the first senior clergy of the rank of a Bishop to be arrested on ground of rape.
