BWF World Tour Finals: Sindhu wins her opening match, Sameer loses

Guangzhou, Dec 12 (IESports) Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu defeated defending champion and World no 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in group A match of the women’s singles to start her Badminton World Tour Finals campaign on a winning note in Guangzhou, China on Wednesday.

The match lasted 52 minutes in which world no 6 Sindhu notched up straight win 24-22, 21-15 against her Japanese counterpart.

Now, Sindhu will face Beiwen Zhang of the United States in her second match.

In the men’s singles event, Sameer Verma of India lost his opening match of the tournament 18-21, 6-21 to world no 1 Kento Momota in 35 minutes.

Top eight players have qualified for the prestigious tournament.
