BJP renames ‘Kandivali Chowk’ as ‘Assumption Chowk’ after 157 year old Church in Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 31 (IENews) While the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh faced criticism for renaming ‘Allahabad’ to ‘Prayagraj’, some terming it a ‘Hindutva’ ploy; the chief minister of Maharashtra has not come in for criticism for changing ‘Kandivali Chowk’ to ‘Assumption Chowk’.

The junction previously named ‘Kandivali Chowk’ will now be ‘Assumption Chowk’ after 157-year old church Our Lady of Assumption.

Present at the renaming ceremony was BJP Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar, priests and members of the Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS).

Bishop John Fernandes unveiled the plaque engraved in gold letters to declare the junction Assumption Chowk officially.
