Rajkot, Mar 14 (IECurrentAffairs) BJP observer for candidate-selection process in Gujarat’s Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency Babubhai Jebaliya on Thursday rejected speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also contest from ‘safe’ Rajkot seat in his home turf.
Talking to mediapersons, Mr Jebaliya, who along with other two observers Narhari Amin and Jayaben Thakkar, was here for selection of candidate for Rajkot seat, said, ‘I don’t think that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would contest from Rajkot. He can contest from anywhere in the country and easily win. He is a leader of world-stature and was so popular due to his policies and work that he can win from wherever he contests.’
In 2014 general polls, Mr Modi had contested from two seats – Varanasi in UP and Vadodara seat in Gujarat – and won from both.
Like Vadodara, Rajkot is considered to be one of the safest seats for BJP.
Meanwhile, Rajkot MP and former union minister Mohan Kundariya said that he would accept whatever decision the party takes.
Mr Modi will again contest from Varanasi parliamentary constituency.
