Assam Government awards Rs 50 lakh for India’s Oscar entry

Guwahati, Sep 25 (UNI) India’s official entry for the next Oscars, ‘Village Rockstars’, was on Tuesday awarded with Rs 50 lakh by the Assam government.

The state Cabinet approved the cash reward for the maker of the film Rima Das, who hails from Chaygaon, near Guwahati, in Assam.

The Cabinet adopted a congratulatory message for Das and decided to give her Rs 50 lakh as a reward to her movie ‘Village Rockstars’ nomination for Oscar.

The film, set in Das’ native village in Chaygaon, is about a young girl and her friends who dream of forming their own music band.
It was awarded the ‘Swarna Kamal’ for best feature film in this year’s National Film Awards, among many national and international awards ‘Village Rockstars’ has notched up so far.
