Assam Cabinet took two major decisions to boost tea industry

Guwahati, Sep 26 (IENews) In a major boost the Tea industry in the state, the Assam Cabinet yesterday took two major decisions.

To help the small tea growers of the state, the Cabinet approved an amendment in Special Land Act, 1990, by which Rs 0.10 tea cess exemption will be given to small tea growers. Earlier, the government had levied Rs 0.10 paisa cess on small tea growers.

In another decision, exporters who export Tea from Export Tea Centre at Amingaon, Guwahati, will get Rs 6/per kg rebate on Agriculture Income Tax.

It is expected to increase tea export directly from the state.

Assam had produced 650 mn kg tea last year, of which about 48 per cent was from small tea growers.
