London, Jan 31 (IESports) Denis Suarez on Wednesday completed his move from FC Barcelona to Arsenal on a loan deal to the end of the season.
The move came after the 25-year-old signed a one-year extension of his current contract with Barca until the end of June 2021. However, given that Arsenal have an option to make the move permanent for around 25 million euros (1 euro = 1.14 US dollars) at the end of the season, it is unlikely he will return to the Camp Nou.
Suarez began his career in the Celta Vigo youth system before joining Manchester City, where he spent two seasons before moving to Barcelona’s B team.
From there he spent time with Sevilla, where he worked with current Arsenal boss Unai Emery and Villarreal before returning to Barca in the summer of 2016.
However, the left sided midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Barca, making just 12 league starts in his first season and 4 last season, with just two brief substitute appearances so far in the current campaign.
Emery commented earlier in the week that his club “needs wingers and if a player such as Denis Suarez arrives, he has these qualities.”
Suarez is unlikely to be Arsenal’s last signing of the current transfer window with former Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco also lined up for a move from Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
