New Delhi, Feb 11 (IECurrentAffairs) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday began his day-long hunger strike against Narendra Modi government over the Special Category Status to the state, at Andhra Pradesh bhavan in the national capital.
Mr Naidu started his protest, ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha,’ after paying tribute at Rajghat in the early morning.
Andhra Pradesh Ministers, party MPs, MLAs and other leaders are sitting the dharna along with the Chief Minister, which will be concluded at 2000 hrs.
Several opposition leaders, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, National Conference Leader Farooq Abdullah, Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav are expected to visit Mr Naidu.
Addressing the gathering Mr Naidu questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked what the need for Mr Modi visited Andhra Pradesh’s Gundur a day before the entire Andhra Pradesh government coming to Delhi to protest against the Centre.
“I am warning this (Union) government and particularly the Prime Minister to stop attacking an individual. This protest is about self-respect of people of Andhra Pradesh. Whenever there is an attack on our self-respect, we will not tolerate it”, said Mr Naidu.
He also stated that “if you will not fulfill our demands, we know how to get them fulfilled.”
Mr Naidu, who is at feud with Mr Modi after the Centre rejected the demand of granting Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and subsequently he quit the NDA.
He was at forefront to unite the opposition parties at national level against the BJP government and has been frequently visiting national capital.
However, in a scathing attack, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday criticised Mr Naidu and said the Andhra Chief Minister is busy promoting his son and did not do anything for the development of the state.
