Jalandhar, Nov 18 (IECurrentAffairs) In a gruesome incident, three people were killed and several others injured in a grenade attack at a religious congregation of ‘Nirankaris’ in Amritsar on Sunday.
Surinder Pal Singh, a senior police officer said that the grenade attack reportedly took place at the Nirankari Bhawan brimming with around 200 devotees in Rajasansi village.
He said that at least ten persons were injured in the blast and had been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
It is said that three persons with covered faces came on a motorbike and sped away immediate after hurling a grenade at the congregation.
Police said that, management of the Nirankari Mission hold weekly satsang (congregation) every Sunday during which devotees in large number come to participate in the congregation.
The Nirankari Bhawan is situated on the outskirts of Raja Sansi town where two motorcycle borne suspects hurled a hand grenade and fled from the spot.
The police have cordoned off the area and started intensive search operation in and around the town. All the routes leading to outside destinations have been blocked to nab the culprits.
Earlier, the Central Intelligence Agencies had issued a warning to Punjab about the possible violent attacks which would spoil the conducive atmosphere of the state.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had also cautioned the state about the possible terror attacks in the state recently to bring the state on fire.
Meanwhile the security of all the major places, locations and Guru Ram Das Airport at Raja Sansi and in Amritsar has been tightened.
A high alert had also been sounded in the entire Amritsar district and Raja Sansi.
The police and intelligence agencies are examining the situation and probing the matter with different angles to establish any connection of the incident with Kashmiri terrorists especially in the wake of Zakir Musa, head of a Kashmir based terrorist outfit having links with Pakistan based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammd who was seen some where in Amritsar on Friday.
