Indore: While the Christian community in India is reeling under disappointing news of rapes by some priests and even a Bishop representing the Catholic Church, it now has to deal with the news of an arrest of a priest for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 17-year old girl.
The accused Father Prakash Damor, aged 33, was arrested in the Jhabua District of Madhya Pradesh.
In a suicide note of the girl who hanged herself at her house on January 4th this year, it is mentioned that the Catholic priest Damor was pressuring the you girl to marry him, Inspector Kailash Chauhan of Ranapur Police Station informed IndianExpose.com.
The priest has been arrested under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act Tuesday (January 15).
It has been learned from the police investigations that the Priest Damor had first met the girl at the Missionary School where she was studying in Class 11.
Damar was produced in court on the day of his arrest and was remanded to judicial custody.
Father Rockey Shah of the Jhabua Catholic Diocese told a section of media that the Church stand with the girl’s family in their grief, but Priest Damor was booked without proper investigations. We want an in-depth inquiry so that the real culprit is arrested.”
