Accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal leaves jail on conditional bail

Kochi, Oct 16 (ICNews) Accused rapist of 44-year old nun, Bishop Franco Mulakkal today walked out of jail, after Kerala High Court granted conditional bail.

The Catholic Church clergyman was greeted by Kerala MLA PC George who called the victim nun a ‘prostitute’ and some supporters who were praying for his release outside jail.

The Vatican had temporarily relieved Bishop Franco Mulakkal from his pastoral duties due the rape case.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal had been arrested on accusations of rape, sodomy and confinement of the from nun from the Missionaries of Jesus congregation.

The accused rapist is the first Bishop of the Catholic Church to be arrested in India.

Prior his arrest after protest by Christians in Kochi and media uproar, people linked to the powerful Bishop of Jalandhar tried to bribe, threaten and slander the victim.
